Security Risk Consultant Services, Security Consulting,
Surveying and Assessing Business Risk, Indicating or Implementing
Solutions
One of the main things people look at in
considering a security risk consultant is their background,
credentials, and experience (I've posted these for you on my
"Security Expert Witness" page - go
here
to view these if you haven't - hit your back button to return here).
Make no mistake; credentials and experience should be of high
importance. However, given this and in addition, I find that many
people have basic questions on their minds regarding hiring a
professional security risk consultant. What does a security risk
consultant actually do? Why not just hire a vendor or several in
different areas where risks are obvious? What can a security risk
consultant really do for me? Do I really need a consultant? Good
questions, and they deserve clear answers.

Applications of Security Risk Consultant & Consulting Services:
If you have the understanding first
that a security consultant works strictly for you, receives no benefit or
payment from anyone else, including security or other vendors
that may be engaged for solutions, that is one clear feature and
benefit to start with. A security risk consultant has no ties to anyone other than
the client and their needs. A security consultant is objective. What is the
difference between a consultant and a security vendor?
“Consulting
is the science of providing
objective, business-relevant guidance and counsel
to
decision makers without
possessing an ownership
stake in the
decision.”
Treat this like a quiz with
questions and answers that illuminate features, benefits, and uses
of the services of a security risk consultant:
Do you need a security risk
consultant?
How could a security risk
consultant help you?
1.
Do you have an experienced and professional security director
in-house? Yes? No?
A. No? Many businesses lack the funds to
hire in-house security directors who know security and methodology
inside and out. As a result they also do not have
the staff and expertise to effectively address the security needed
to protect their employees or their assets that are equal to the
threats. All
too often many businesses find this out after a significant event or
loss. The current business environment demands that a business proactively
address those needs in a cost-effective manner. A proactive approach to security is
often the least expensive approach. Comment: Using a
professional security risk consultant as an "out sourced security
director" can fill that void and help secure your business and your
position. Economy and benefits.
2. Are you acting as "Security Director" or have you designated
another management person to fill this role along with their other
duties? Human Resources? Personnel Director? Operations Manager?
Maintenance Director?
A. Yes? What is good is that you
are recognizing that someone should pay attention to this very
important area, short of a professional security person. Without
in-depth experience and more, often the wheel gets reinvented,
taking much valuable time that could be much better spent. Often
mistakes are made inadvertently or with good intention, but with
negative outcomes, some of which can be very costly. A security
consultant can be a sounding board, given that certain things are in
place, and provide coaching or mentoring, all designed to prevent
loss, mitigate against risk or unforeseen liability. This can be an
economical arrangement, and provides for a valuable support function
for a manager trying to find the way through the maze of what can be
serious hazards, given the wrong move. Security. It's a big job, a
large undertaking, and more difficult than those who have not been
in it can imagine. "Murphy's Laws" continue to be in effect. A
professional security risk consultant can make it easier, and pave
the way to a more secure present and future.
3.
Do you have policies and procedures in place that address security
issues adequate to the tests of a court or an opposing attorney,
given that some incident would occur? Do you have an asset
protection plan?
A. Yes? Have they been reviewed by
a certified professional, with documentation, on a scheduled,
regular basis? Have your security policies been evaluated in regard
to the actuality of methods that are in place? Or that should be?
Are your policies, including incident and documentation reports,
being followed? If not, you are looking at risk, given the right
kind of incident. Security risk assessments and surveys, along with
documentation, can eliminate this or at least reduce liability. No?
No policies or procedures that address security or risk? You are
looking at risk and potential loss. A security risk consultant is
the one who can help you with this. Professional. The certifications
carry additional weight, given the worst case scenarios. Losses that
result from the lack of apparent concern over safety and security of
employees, visitors, and others, may just be waiting to happen. A
security risk consultant can help you close the door on various
negative possibilities.
4. How are you
dealing with the increasingly technical aspects of security systems,
electronics, integration, and information?
The technical nature of security
continues to ramp up. AAA Risk Management can help you
meet these challenges. Before you spend money on alarm systems or
closed circuit television systems (CCTV) that may not adequately
address the threats or vulnerabilities unique to your business,
a consultation could save you money, eliminate headaches, or
terrible surprises down the road when one system won't work with
another. We are trained to assess all
aspects of physical security, including lighting, fencing, key
control, parking lots, as well as procedures for applicant
screening, shipping and receiving, and security guards. We can customize a program to fit your specific needs and budget.
A security risk consultant can help in many different ways.
5.
Can you simply trust the advice and perspectives of vendors that are
tied to specific solutions? Solutions that may not be the best
solutions?
At AAA Risk Management
we don't sell alarm systems, CCTV systems, guard services, security fencing, or
any like security products or security services.
Free of this burden, we maintain our objectivity, and this allows us to help you
define your security needs and offer you the most cost-effective
countermeasures available. Goals? To make your work environment safer while
providing better protection of your business assets. If you have an
asset protection plan n place including policies and procedures, and need to have it updated or
audited, we can provide that important service. Important? Your plans,
policies, and their implementation, how current they are, will be reviewed
or scrutinized carefully if there is an
incident - your position is stronger if it has been reviewed and
brought up to date. Consultant services are wide ranging, and we
gear specific services only to this: what you need. And we
help you to implement controls that are reasonable and make sense
for you situation, both for the present and a more secure future.

often the least expensive approach.
